Plot
: Maya, coming from poor family, is married to the affluent Dr. Anand;
but she tries to commit suicide on the nuptial night. She tells Anand that she
was in love with Prem whose ambition was to be a music director. He too was in
love with her but thought she would not be happy as his wife. Anand tells Maya
that he had married her only for his mother who was on her death bed. When the
mother dies Anand wants to unite Prem and Maya but Prem says it is against Hindu
culture and disappears from their life. Widower Dr. Anand (Naseeruddin Shah)
gets re-married to a much younger girl, Maya, (Padmimi Kolhapure). He soon comes
to know that the marriage was made without her consent. After he gains her
confidence, he gets her to tell him who she really loves, and it is Prem Pratap
Patialawala (Anil Kapoor), a street singer, self-styled musician. Dr. Anand then
attempts to locate Prem Pratap, with a view to re-unite the lovers. Since Dr.
Anand's mom is seriously ill, he asks Maya to remain his wife for about seven
days, as he does not expect his mother to survive longer, to which Maya agrees.
Dr. Anand, in the guise of a movie producer, hires Prem Pratap as his Music
Director, and then eventually invites him to his house, so that the lovers may
see each other again. Will Dr. Anand be successful in re-uniting Prem and Maya? |
