Plot : Satya Bol, director Sanjay Upadhyay’s debut film is a cop film that comes at a time when the viewing public is not receptive to cops and their travails. And so, though it is an earnest and well meaning coming of age cop film it is also reminiscent of the recent Kagaar. If the film had been made when it was first conceived, which was a few years back, the film might have stood a chance. It is an idealistic film which attempts to show the slow but sure loss of innocence of a cop just out of the academy, Manish Singh. On his first posting in Mumbai he discovers a whole new life as he first resists but finally gets drawn into the vortex of police life and all its accompanying corruption in one form or the other.At the police station he meets many different kind of cops. There is Sayaji Shinde, an encounter specialist who believes in letting his gun do the talking. Sachin Khedekar who believes everything can be resolved by talking and then there is the Chief Rajendra Gupta who is a master manipulator. Manish, who has rather an active conscience is aghast at what he sees and soon this also begins to affect his relationship with his just married wife, Tina Parakh. He is torn in all directions and eventually has to come to terms with reality.Encounter specialists, cops on the take and the reality of low salaries among them are all old hat. And while this doesn’t make it any less true it has so been done, the audience is tired of it.Another flaw with the film is that the lead actor, Manish Singh does not impress. And neither does his co - star Tina Parakh. Sayaji Shinde is too loud. It is Rajendra Gupta and Sachin Khedekar who save the day.Sanjay Upadhyay and his camerman Dhananjay Kukkarni know their job and execute it well, but it is the familiarity of the story that lets them down.See it only if you missed Khakee, Ab Tak Chhappan, Kagaar, Dev etc etc.
