Plot
:‘Cheeni Kum’ is a sarcastic love story of a 64-yr-old man and a
34-yr-old unmarried woman. It stars
Amitabh Bachchan and
Tabu in respective roles.
The movie is not an intense love story with sexual undertones. Rather, it is a
romantic comedy, low on mush and high on humour.
Paresh Rawal , veteran Zohra Sehgal and child artiste Swini Khara are the other
actors in the movie.
Amitabh Bachchan as Buddhadev Gupta 64-year-old Buddhadev Gupta is an arrogant,
acidic, sarcastic chef of London’s top Indian restaurant. He lives with his
nonagenarian mother. He takes pride in his work and likes to keep sentiments out
of his relations with people.Tabu as Nina Verma
Nina is a 34-yr-old Indian woman visiting London. Her peaceful, incident-free
life is disturbed by an arrogant 64-year-old chef who insults her in his
restaurant. But Nina teaches him a lesson. She later finds the chef attracted
towards her.
Paresh Rawal as Om Prakash Verma
58-yr-old Om Prakash Verma is a Gandhian who loves watching cricket and eating
good food. The peace of his mind is shattered when his daughter Nina introduces
to him to a 64-yr-old man who claims to be in love with her.
Zohra Sehgal
Zohra Sehgal plays Amitabh’s mother. Like her son she is also sarcastic, rude
and witty. For her, her 64-year-old son is still a grumpy child and she keeps
telling him what to do with his life.
Storyline
Buddhadev is a chef who believes cooking is an art, and a very fine one at that.
One day, a woman walks into his restaurant and raises an objection on one of the
dishes served to her. Buddhadev feels his years of experience as a chef is
challenged. He acts rudely with her.
The woman is Nina Verma, a tourist from India. Not the one to take insults lying
down, Nina gives back Buddhadev a taste of his own bitterness.
Buddhadev feels rattled by the young woman. He tries to make up for his rudeness
by a display of cordiality. But Nina remains dignified and totally unaffected by
Buddhadev’s pomposity. The more she tries to ignore him the more Buddhadev gets
attracted towards her.
Gradually, love blossoms between Buddhadev and Nina. But the toughest part would
be to convince Nina’s father Om Prakash Verma about their relationship.
When Om Prakash meets the 64-year-old chef he has no clues of his daughter’s
intentions. He sees Buddhadev as another old man. A hilarious real life
situation follows when Buddhadev confesses to Om Prakash that he is in love with
Nina.
‘Cheeni Kum’ is a sarcastic love story of two very different people. It is the
story of how they meet, how they fight, how they make up and how their
relationship evolves into a romance.
It is the story of their funny struggle to break the news to the woman’s father
and the chaos they go through convincing him and making him accept them as a
couple.
‘Cheeni Kum’ is directed by ad filmmaker R Balakrishnan. The film has music by
Ilaiyraaja and cinematography by P C Sreeram. It is produced by Sunil Manchanda.
The movie will hit the theatres on May 25.
