Plot:  AB... BAS! tells you the story of one such girl who dares to stand up and say enough is enough when her husband crosses the limit.Though the film has some titillating scenes, it is not a film based on sex theme. It’s a film about a wife who walks out on her cruel husband and decides to fight for her rights.
abbas (14K)Soumya [Diana Hayden] wins a beauty pageant and has the guys mesmerized by her looks. Karan [Shawar Ali], a tycoon, also present at the pageant, is completely smitten by Soumya. He woos her successfully and they get married.Soumya delivers a baby girl and they lead a happy life. Everything comes to an end when Soumya discovers that Karan is indulging in extra-marital affairs.Initially Karan reacts with humbleness and offers an apology. But he continues to cheat her and Soumya gets enraged. She keeps on questioning him and at one stage Karan gets physical. He threatens her with dire consequences.Soumya decides to walk out and even asks for divorce, but Karan is paying heed. Soumya escapes with her kid and try to live on her own. But Karan follows her wherever she goes. Sowmya’s pains continue and she decides to give it back.Though its script goes on predictable lines and the screenplay has a lot of flaws, the film somehow manages to keep you hooked on to the screen.AB... BAS! is inspired by director Michael Apted’s Enough [2002, starring Jennifer Lopez, Billy Campbell]. It also resembles Sleeping With The Enemy and its Indian counterpart Agnisakshi.The initial portions proceed like a routine love story but the film gathers momentum after Diana discovers Shawar’s extra marital affair. The hide-and-seek game between the couple provides some thrilling moments. The final 15 minutes of the film is amongst the most interesting portions.But the screenplay has too many hiccups. The way Shawar finds the whaereabouts of Diana each and every time she tries to hide herself defies logic. The director has taken no pains to make the hide and seek game credible. Moreover, it’s incomprehensible that Diana does not seek Police’s help even when the situation goes beyond her control. Even Diana’s friend [Pravin Sirohi] and foster parents [Aroon Bakshi, Neena Kulkarni] are not complaining about Shawar when he physically abuses them.Though the screenplay is not convincing, Rajesh Singh’s direction is quite competent in many parts. He makes for the lapses in the screenplay with some smart strokes, especially towards the climax.The major flaw of the film is that it lacks focus. It’s not clear whether it is meant to be a thriller or a family drama or a film on domestic violence.Daboo Malik has rendered melodious music. The catchy tunes of ‘Tu Ishq Mera Hai’ and ‘Kehta Hai Mera Dil’ stand out. The filming of the songs is spectacular. While Diana Hayden shows some improvement over her debut film, she is found wanting at many places. Her expressions are loud at times. He reveals her perfectly shaped body without any inhibitions but she should understand that breasts and curvaceous body couldn’t replace action.AdvertisementShawar Ali’s depiction of the maniacal husband, a wife-beater is not that convincing. Though he manages the cold, menacing and cruel look with credibility he too is found wanting in emotional sequences. Both Shawar and Diana need to work hard on their acting skills. They should not forget that possessing a great body does help but it cannot ensure quality performance on screen.AB... BAS! targets the masses and it does it successfully with some dramatic sequences and hot scenes. So it is expected to do well at box office at smaller centres despite the shortcomings.
